Weddings, Ashtray Licking, KISS Army, My BFF's Jessica And Girard, Crawfish Boils, and Sunburns

Last weekend, one of my best friends from highschool got married. She was the first of our highschool group of friends to get married, so Mazel Tov, Kirby and Mike! Of course I was beyond excited for this, I got to go to Houston and spend a weekend with some of my best friends who I don't get to see much. The wedding was simple and beautiful, totally Kirby's style and so wonderful. We all had an absolute blast tearing it up on the dance floor, and I do mean tearing it up. I'm pretty positive that after dinner, none of us sat down for more than 5 minutes.

After the wedding, we all went to Black Swan at the Omni (this is the place to go after weddings in Houston). So at the wedding, one of Mike's groomsmen was told that I was single and he thought that I was cute. We got pretty close at Black Swan (I was dubbed the makeout bandit)...and he wanted me to go to his hotel with him. I really am not that kind of girl, plus I would rather spend the night with my friends, catching up then make something out of a whatever makeout session on a lounge dance floor. Honestly, I wasn't looking for anything more than to make out with someone, I really wanted to make out. He's a good guy, but he does smoke A LOT when he drinks and now I can say from experience that making out with a smoker is definitely like licking an ash tray. He also still had some frattastic college blood in him and started howling (like a coyote) at the bar. I also find out that the girl who told him about me never told him my name..and he never asked, so he didn't know my name until we all left the bar...sorry if you see this, you're a great guy, but since you didn't even ask...at all, me writing this is totally fair..yes, I am a bitch. love me.

As far as my music tastes go, sometimes I think that I was born in the wrong era, but at this point, as long as there are ways for me to enjoy music from any era, I'm good. Last Tuesday, I did what some people would consider crazy (and without knowing the circumstances that allowed it, I would too). I took half of a day off of work, flew to Houston so that i could go to the Rodeo and go to the KISS concert that night. Reasons why this does not qualify as crazy: I used paid time off and the time off was approved, the tickets were free and we already had them whether they were going to be used or not, I earn enough money to afford to book the flights and not get myself into trouble, It was time that I also got to spend with my dad, stepmom, and one of my best friends, I had a free place (one of my homes) to stay, and I was able to get back to Dallas in time to not be late for work the next day. ALSO KISS was one of my bucket list concerts AND they were NOT coming to Dallas on this run, and who knows how long after this they will be able to hold up and tour. The show was great, and I had so much fun! Most of the fans there were around my dad and stepmom's ages, which only made the concert better. It was definitely worth being tired the next day. I'll have a recap posted of it soon, hopefully.

Over the weekend, I went to Shreveport with some work friends. Let me just try to explain how ecstatic I was when A asked me to join her and R and their friends for the weekend-seriously it was so flattering and i was SO excited...sure, I sound like a loser, but put yourself in the position where you don't have many friends where you life and even though your'e trying to make some, you end up spending weekends alone. To have someone ask you to hang out, or to have plans is seriously super happy and super exciting. So I drove after work and met them for some drinks. After that, we all went to the casinos. At the second on, we saw Jessica Biel and Gerard Butler. Hilariousness ensued. Their friend is a very tall and big man and decided to "hide" behind a pole after pretty much screaming in their direction "That's not them! That is not Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel". A and I scoped it out and she let out a really cute squeak when we passed them; their reaction pretty much proved that it was them. A ended up getting a picture with Gerard. I didn't end up getting in the picture, but that was a pretty neat celebrity sighting. Then, all I wanted was french fries (because when I drink, I looooooves my fries), so Whataburger it was, and damn, they hit the spot so good!

We spent Saturday at a lakehouse on Lake Cross.. Cross Lake? sitting outside, drinking "Swamp Juice" oh, frozen daquiri place, beer, and and just chilling. We had our own crawfish boil that night with pounds and pounds of crawfish, shrimp, crab legs, corn, onions, and potatoes. T did all the cooking and oh.my.goodness, I cannot even describe how amazing everything tasted. This was my first time eating crawfish like that; I wasn't sure that I would like it, and of course A "blessed it" because it was not kosher. It was so good, even with all the work you have to do to get that little piece of meat (yes, that IS what she said). I am also afraid of crawfish..even though they were dead at this point, they were still in crawfish exoskeleton form and had eyes and antennae, buuut since they tasted so good, I had to get over that issue real quickly. By the end of the night, I was bright red, pretty much the color of the crawfish from sitting in the sun...It's kind of ridiculous but pretty funny.

This morning we went to an old school souther cooking southern meal place called Strawns and hung out for a little bit before driving home. I had such a great time over the weekend and their friends were so nice too. I really hope that I get invited to more things with them.

Nothing new JDate wise or anything else besides Cigarette Lips from the wedding; all in all though, life is good, even though I am roasted, toasted, and burnt to a crisp.

The Michael Kohrs Tatum Bootie is trendy and really hott. Pretty much I saw this and drooled, no joke-I really want this shoe.

This is the Roxie Detroit Bootie...yes, I know, off season, but these would be so comfy for fall and winter down here..I love the subtle metallic finish and the chain detail.

Since working out has finally given me a waist, I am really loving the Adrian Papell Belted Sheath Dress..mostly becuase I can wear them now and now look ridiculous or like a sausage of some sorts (kosher that is ;) I wore a dress similar to this for part of my sister's bat mitzvah and I love the way that it looked.

I Spoke Too Soon

So, yes, DirecTV did send me a new receiver box, but when I went to set it up, it could not find the satellite signal. I spent probably 2 hours on the phone with 3 different customer service representatives (2 from DirecTV and 1 from MDU Communications) They were all very nice and tried to help me figure out what was going on as best as they could. Unfortunately, I had to make another early am (paid the $50 deposit and all) appointment to get this taken care of in person. MDU Communications better step up this time, I can't be so late to work because of bull again. Regardless, all of the reps told me that I was by far the nicest and most patient person they've spoken to over the phone...a) that's my job, I'm not going to give myself bad call karma because I wanted to be a bitch b) why yell at someone who isn't the reason something isn't working and c) it was at night, they probably didn't want to be there, so why would I ever want to make that worse for them?

So, I guess we'll see what the deal ends up being after that appointment...until next time, the DVR drama continues

Ryan Star [Interview]

Ryan Star is one of the most light hearted yet deepest people I have ever met. He's been around music since as long as he can remember. From listening to music with his parents to forming his own band in high school to going solo a few years later, Ryan has made himself into his own musical vision. His lyrics are thoughtful and come from deep within; his songs are relatable and real. Ryan Star's tour came to Dallas the last week of October and I got to spend some time with him before the show to get to know him and his music better.

The end to my Directv/DVR Dilemma

...For real this time..for now

I used my lunch at work to call DirecTV and speak to them about issues regarding billing me for the DVR/receiver that had not been working for almost 2 weeks and then to sort out the question of the receivers being customer owned or leased.

First I spoke to billing-I felt like that was the most pressing issue as the DVR service is the add on and I don't want to pay for a feature that I haven't been able to enjoy (though i miss it SO much and want to enjoy it again soon!) After calmly explaining to the billing representative that it was the WHOLE box that was not working and not just the DVR aspect, she was able to credit my account and suspend that billing until I was able to get my receiver fixed. They did have to run a credit report-I'm not sure why, but I passed it, so I guess that's all good.

She transfered me over to another department so I could address the owned vs lease issue. Apparently when ATT Home Entertainment switched us over to MDU Communications, they switched boxes from being ATT owned to customer owned and didn't tell anyone. I was able to switch mine to lease easily and get a replacement box ordered to be sent to me. FYI When you own the box, you pay $99 for a replacement; when you lease, you pay $20 for the replacement and that just covers the shipping, but you have to ship the broken box back, soo that is what I'm doing. The guy who I was talking to graciously waived that shipping fee for me, which was awesome and really nice. Again, I don't yell or scream at people on the phone, so you CAN get things like this while being a polite customer.

So, for now, the drama is over; I just have to wait to receive my new box and then activate it...and if that works...well I just can't wait to DVR all my shows again and not miss out on everything.

3 player games, Viva Burlesque Dallas

Last Saturday, E and D came over to chill and play Apples to Apples...EJ was supposed to come over, but she had to work a Saturday (abnormal with our jobs) and fell asleep instead of coming over. No big deal, next time haha. I made some homemade guacamole and put out my little spread..chips, salsa, guac, cookies, and wine. So Apples to Apples is definitely a 4+ person game, but we kind of played anyway. It's interesting though, the person who wins usually gets the most cards because they know the people who they are playing with well, so naturally E and D had more cards because they are married and we are new friends. Soon though, that'll change; it was really fun hanging out and talking with them. We may go to a Jew party later this month, but I also could end up going to Shreveport that weekend. I haven't decided yet, but I've got some time to think about it.

Last night, I went to the Viva Burlesque Dallas show at the Lakewood Theater with L. To the untrained, close minded person, this probably sounds like a lesbian thing to do...sorry, we'ere both straight, but Burlesque is a classy way to appreciate the natural female body. I say natural because the women are not stick thin and their breasts aren't all perky and perfect, but they can dance, some can sing, and they're creative. We went for this reason (it's a great confidence pick me up to see NORMAL people being sexy) and because L loves the costumes and makeup. It was really fun and I'll post a review of it later.

Everything else seriously is work work work. Pretty much I'm working overtime from now until I leave the country for a bit. I'm already pretty burnt out with that on top of working out Monday and Wednesday and TRYING to have a social life after work.

A Lesson in how to treat..anyone

I say "anyone", but this is more geared towards please treat customer service agents well! At least those of us who do our jobs correctly and do try to help as much as we can. I have gotten several angry calls; some customers will be patient with you knowing that you are not the cause of the issue; others will yell and scream at you like you personally caused the problem.

So yesterday, I called MDU to discuss getting my deposit refunded that I had paid to secure that first appointment. Their phone team is fabulous, so there was no reason for me to scream at them for the awful physical service that I received. I was very calm and explained the whole situation to her. (I also did not want to get bad customer service karma and experience rude calls in my own job). Anyway, she was very understanding and worked with me and her billing department to get my refund.

I strongly believed that the way I handled my end of the call contributed to her understanding and willingness to help me out. I easily could have called her and yelled at her and demanded my money back rudely and possibly ruined her day, but that would not have been fair. I am hoping that more people see things this way...and am hoping for some more good call karma too!

Happy ending to my DVR/DirecTV Madness?

..The service appointment lasted 2 MINUTES...

So I called customer service (BY THE WAY THIS COMPANY IS CALLED MDU COMMUNICATIONS) to ask them what the deal was, the rep on the phone was a sweetheart and felt the same way that I did (that 1st scheduled appointment in a 9-1 block should be around 9 am, 9:15 the latest arrival); while I had her on the phone, the dispatch called (10:08AM) saying that my technician should be there in 15 minutes.

10:30 came along, 10:34, I opened my door to see my technician leisurely strolling down my hall to my door (yes, leisurely). He goes "I tried to put your apartment number in the keypad but it didn't work, i had them buzz me in, are you leaving" A) DUH I don't have a local number soo that won't work B) that's why you have my cell phone number C) No, I was actually coming down to see if you were here so I could let you in since you didn't call me and it had been 15 minutes since dispatch called.

So he walked in, put his box down (i was like omg new box, yes!) so he goes to my box and is like "yeah you've got a busted box" NO SHIT!!!!!!! So he then calls his dispatch and asks if he can give me the box he came with...ends up that they say my box is "customer owned" ITS NOT BECAUSE WHEN I ORIGINALLY STARTED MY SERVICE WITH ATT HOME ENTERTAINMENT THEY SAID THAT I GIVE IT BACK WHEN I MOVE OUT...that I would have to pay $99 for that box...uh hellll no thank you ..

So then I asked him if that was it, then he smart assedly said yes, had me sign his little paper and let himself out..Anthony, you are a shit.

Oh and by the way, if you didn't pay the annual service plan for this company, each service call is 60 something dollars, which I did and they almost said I didn't.

ANYWAY now I'm pissed off, down $50, directv/dvr in one room almost 3 weeks now and oh did I mention pissed?

sidenote beucase it just happened, I got a free Sirius Satellite plan for a few months with my car, their rep just called me and asked me how I was liking my service-I told him (and truthfully) I knew that I was not going to order it so I never used it. he then ASKED ME TO RENEW THE SUBSCRIPTION SO I CAN KEEP USING THE FEATURES THAT I LOVE SO MUCH..and also had no idea how to pronounce my last name...fuckface, it's NOT that hard..and LEARN TO LISTEN you awful customer service rep

SERIOUSLY I work customer service...I'm not dumb and you really suck at your job..so how about people learn to do their jobs correctly, and learn to listen and LEAVE ME ALONE with your stupid special offers when I tell you the first time that I'm not interested. That goes for you too, Free Credit Score.com

Ghost Cupcakes from Ladies Home Journal

L and I made these around Halloween and they came out really cute! Besides the fact that fondant is an absolute bitch to work with--okay, if you are not used to working with fondant or don't have the right tools (I don't even own a rolling pin, I rolled the fondant out with a can of cooking spray and used the plastic cup that the cupcakes came in to cut the circles..seriously lacking the right tools), the cupcakes come out awesome and it's pretty worth it.

Prep: 1 hr
Start to Finish: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • 18 standard-size cupcakes
  • 1 16-oz container chocolate frosting, or homemade chocolate frosting
  • Cornstarch
  • 1 1-lb, 8-oz pkg white fondant
  • 18 sphere lollipops, such as Dum Dums
  • 1 tube black decorating icing

Directions

1. Frost cupcakes and set aside. Lightly dust work surface with cornstarch and roll fondant a little thinner than 18 1-1/2-inch rounds and 18 4-inch rounds with cookie cutters. Knead scraps together and reroll, as necessary.

2. Insert the stick of a lollipop into a block of Styrofoam (or half a potato or apple) to hold it steady. Place one 1-1/2--nch fondant round over lollipop and pinch to close. Then place larger fondant round over the smaller one, pleating to make a ghost shape. Repeat for all lollipops. Place a ghost in the center of each cupcake by inserting the stick into the cake. Pipe black eyes on each. Makes 18 cupcakes.

What does "securing the first appointment of the day" really mean?

Writing up this lovely little rant because it is 9:51 AM...I should be getting to work right now, but actually, I am sitting at home waiting for the technicial to come fix my DVR/Directv.

Before you go all..honey, they give you a block of time for a reason, you didn't REALLY expect to get to work on time, did you, let me just say that I paid at $50 deposit to secure the first appointment of the day. I was told that the block of "early" appointments was from 9 AM to 1 PM. I think that most people including myself would assume that securing the earliest appointment would mean that the technician should arrive around 9..seeing that they have so many other people to service which is why they can't give us a real time of appointment...

Well...no, because it is now 9:54AM and I am STILL waiting-no call, email, text, smoke signal, pony express, telegram, ESP..anything...and I am a little more than frustrated.

I work customer service and we have something in place so that even off hours and on weekends, if someone needs us, they will reach someone, so tell me again why these companies cannot at least do Saturday appointments? and their full day being 9-6-so inconvenient as most work days now go from 8-6 pm.

It's 9:56 and I'm still waiting..by the way, I'm supposed to be at work in 4 minutes.
